RYA Practical Courses
All practical Courses, other than Start Yachting, are five day courses
cruising on board one of our Training Vessels.
You can enter the Sail Cruising Scheme at any stage according to your
knowledge and experience; there is no requirement to start at beginners
level.
If you are unsure whether you are Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper
standard, it is often easier to let one of our instructors advice you during
your first few days on your course.
On the course pupil / instructor ratio will not exceed 5:1.
Your instructor will plan an itinerary taking into account the ability of the
crew, the weather conditions and the requirements to cover the syllabus.
The training vessel will cover a minimum of 100 miles, except on the
Start Yachting course.
Each crew member will experience at least four hours of night watchkeeping.
During the Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses, each trainee skipper
will be given an opportunity to skipper the yacht under instruction and
will receive a full debrief during or at the end of the course.
During your course our instructor will inform you of your progress and
ensure that everyone is aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
